I am a native of the Bay Area, born right here in Walnut Creek. I
was raised in Martinez and now live there with my wonderful husband
and two young children.
From the time I was a young child I wanted to become a nurse. To me it has been more like a “calling” than a decision influenced by my education. After high school I went to St. Mary’s College in Moraga and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I first began volunteering in the Birth Center at John Muir Medical Center during my first year of nursing school and later worked as a nurse’s aid. It was during this time that I found myself developing an interest in women’s health.
I met and worked with Dr. Wells during my last year of nursing school while training on Labor & Delivery. After graduation I worked for 5 years as an RN at John Muir, rotating from oncology and endocrinology to Labor & Delivery, and Postpartum. During this time I completed my masters degree at UCSF and completed my training as a Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Wells and my paths once again crossed and I began working in his office March 2001 as well as continuing to work on Labor & Delivery. I subsequently began to work full time with Dr. Wells November 2001.
Being a nurse practitioner gives me the opportunity to provide excellent care to our patients by both evaluating and treating their physical complaints as well as providing health education to promote lifelong wellness. The unique role of the nurse practitioner allows me to provide many of the same services as Dr. Wells, but affords more one-on-one time with each patient. My goal for our patients is that each feels she has the time to ask questions or discuss her concerns in a comfortable and unhurried environment.
I have heard so many women say they don’t feel that health care providers spend time to really listen to their concerns. I always hope that I can improve a woman’s health or treat the condition presented to me by first truly listening to her symptoms and then by utilizing the knowledge I have gained through my education and experience. My goal is that my approach to health care will provide our patients with successful treatment accompanied by a satisfying experience.
